National Park Books began as an idea in the fall of 2025 after a trip to the Grand Canyon. Over the years, I have collected and read numerous nature books and national park literature as a prelude to upcoming trips, or sometimes as research on potential destinations. This passion led me to create an affiliate-style website where I can share book recommendations and outdoor reading suggestions with those seeking information.
The term 'team' is a bit of a stretch; it’s really a team of one, as shown to the right. As a bibliophile and outdoor enthusiast, I strive to explore a few of our National Parks or National Monuments each year. During my recent trip to the Grand Canyon last fall, I returned home with a stack of nature books that stood about two feet high. (By the way, carry-on luggage gets heavy when it's filled with books.) As I sifted through this pile of outdoor reading material, I thought others might appreciate having access to curated reading lists, which inspired me to create this site.
For individual parks, I group the national park literature by their main purpose. Generally, you will find visitor guides, hiking guides, maps, and nature books focused on the area's natural history. Some parks will have additional categories, such as adventure stories, art and photography, as well as specialized groupings of archaeological titles. Note: links to books are affiliate links, and I do earn a small commission on purchases, but outdoor reading is a great way to enhance your experience.
